What is Arrakis?
Arrakis is a London- and Paris-based startup building what it calls an AI operating system for industrial companies. Its goal is to bring agentic AI to sectors such as aerospace, energy, logistics and manufacturing, where CEO Rafael Quintanilla argues most of the workforce and the real return on AI sits.
Rather than automating core engineering, Arrakis aims to be the AI layer for the key operations around it. Its playbook starts small at headquarters, proves value and then moves to field operations. For one New York-listed shipping company, the goal was to improve cash-flow visibility from monthly to daily. Arrakis rebuilt the spreadsheets operators already used, with AI populating the data while the system learned and codified operator knowledge from their corrections.
Arrakis usually ties about half of its fees to hitting a performance target and is model-agnostic by design, which appeals to executives wary of lock-in and high token costs. The company says its best traction has come from family-controlled businesses.
Quintanilla is a former vice president at Accel. The company's backers include Accel, which led an earlier seed round, along with individual investors Datadog CEO Olivier Pomel and OpenAI's head of business products, Olivier Godement.
Pros
- Focused on industrial operations that most AI tools overlook
- Model-agnostic design reduces lock-in to a single AI provider
- Performance-based pricing ties about half of fees to results
- Starts with small, measurable projects rather than large transformation programs
Cons
- Very young company, about seven months old at announcement
- Engagements appear hands-on and enterprise-led rather than self-serve
- Competes with Palantir, consulting firms and well-funded industrial AI players
How to Use Arrakis
- 1Pick a first workflow
Choose a headquarters process such as cash-flow visibility to prove value.
- 2Connect existing tools
Let Arrakis rebuild around the spreadsheets and systems operators already use.
- 3Capture operator knowledge
Operators correct AI-populated data so the system learns and codifies their expertise.
- 4Expand to the field
Once value is proven, extend the platform to field operations.
