About Boxd
Boxd provides persistent, hardware-isolated Linux virtual machines in the cloud for developers and AI coding agents. Teams compose one VM and then spin up as many copies as they need to run code and tests in parallel. The Dutch startup raised a $2M pre-seed round led by BlueYard Capital in September 2026.

What is Boxd?
Boxd is cloud infrastructure for AI coding agents and the developers who run them. It offers what it calls composable computers: real, hardware-isolated Linux VMs in the cloud. You compose one environment, then spin up as many as you need so agents can run code, execute tests and manage software workflows in parallel.
Autonomous coding agents need somewhere safe to execute code. Containers on a laptop do not scale well to many parallel agents, and shared environments raise security concerns. Boxd focuses on efficient, secure and fast virtualization tailored to those workloads, with persistent machines so state survives between agent runs. It is built on the company's own custom virtualization engine.
Boxd was founded in 2026 by Michiel Voortman, Laurentiu Ciobanu and Hidde Kehrer and is based in the Netherlands. In September 2026 it raised a $2M pre-seed round led by BlueYard Capital, with OVNI Capital, Antler, S20, Script Capital and angels from General Intuition. The funds will expand the team and further develop the virtualization engine.
As a pre-seed company, Boxd is early, so teams should evaluate maturity and regional availability.

- Hardware-isolated VMs rather than shared containers
- Persistent machines keep state between agent runs
- Easy to clone environments for parallel agents
- Custom virtualization engine focused on speed
Cons
- Very early, pre-seed stage company
- Smaller ecosystem than established cloud providers
- Pricing and regions are not detailed in the announcement
