About Drafted
Drafted is an AI home design platform that generates floor plans, 3D models, renders, and CAD or BIM exports from prompts, sketches, and spatial constraints. Users can set lot boundaries, room programs, and square footage that persist across iterations. It serves homeowners, architects, builders, and developers.

What is Drafted?
Drafted builds multimodal generative models for residential architecture. On its website, users can design house plans by describing what they want, combining sketches with direct spatial input, and then exploring the result in 2D and 3D. The company says users can define footprints, lot boundaries, room placement and relationships, room programs, and square footage constraints, and those constraints persist as they iterate.
Designs can be exported as CAD, PDF, and other files so they can move into the rest of the design and construction process. The homepage highlights floor plans, 3D models, renders, and professional CAD and BIM exports, along with a public feed of designs created by users.
According to its Y Combinator profile, Drafted had 120,000 users visit the site in a month, generating more than 325,000 floor plans, largely through social sharing and word of mouth. The team of nine includes researchers from Stanford, Autodesk, Brown, and Adobe, plus architects.
Drafted is part of Y Combinator's Spring 2026 batch and is based in San Francisco. It is led by founder and CEO Nick Donahue. In May 2026 Drafted announced a $16 million seed round.
Pros
- Generates floor plans and 3D layouts from prompts, sketches, and constraints
- Constraints like lot size and room program persist across iterations
- Exports to CAD, PDF, and BIM formats for use with professionals
- Runs in the browser with a public feed of user-created designs for inspiration
Cons
- AI-generated plans still need review by licensed professionals before construction
- The company has said it plans to launch paid subscription plans, so some features may become paid
- Focused on residential homes rather than commercial buildings
How to Use Drafted
- 1Get started
Open Drafted in the browser and create an account.
- 2Describe your home
Enter details such as lot size, bedroom count, style, and room relationships, or start from a sketch.
- 3Iterate in 2D and 3D
Generate floor plans, adjust constraints, and explore the design in 3D and renders.
- 4Export
