What is mika?
mika is a Berlin-based vertical AI startup building a financial operating system for small incorporated businesses in Germany, mainly GmbHs and UGs. These companies must keep accounts and submit tax filings, and many rely on tax advisers because of the complexity of the rules.
The platform handles ongoing bookkeeping, VAT returns, annual accounts and tax filings. At its core is an AI-native general ledger developed specifically for German accounting. The system reads receipts and payments, uses different AI models depending on the task, and combines them with accounting rules and domain knowledge to categorise and record transactions and explain individual entries to users.
Trained accountants at mika review results and step in when a case needs human involvement. Users can query their financial information in mika or through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) using assistants such as ChatGPT or Claude. The platform can also explain letters from tax authorities. Individual tax advice is not part of the service; mika works with licensed tax advisers from its network instead.
Founder and CEO Agnieszka Walorska says mika grew from around 400 GmbHs and UGs at the start of 2026 to more than 750. In September 2026 it raised a EUR 6 million seed round led by Smedvig Ventures.
