Space describes itself as the infinite AI-native filesystem. It collapses cloud and local storage into a single shared data layer, so users do not need to download, sync, or duplicate files.
According to its website, Space gives instant access to terabytes of data on any computer while using zero bytes on disk. Files appear in Finder and can be opened and edited in place, streaming as they are needed. The company pitches one persistent drive shared by a person, their team, and their agents. The SaaS News reports that Space sits directly above the operating system, so existing applications can interact with cloud-hosted data as if it were stored locally, across petabytes. The app is available for macOS and Linux, with Windows listed as coming soon.
Space was founded in 2025 by Matthew Ao, Arihant Bapna, and Jason Zhao and is based in San Francisco. In August 2026 it announced a $2.4M pre-seed round led by a16z speedrun, with Golden Ventures, Northside Ventures, and angels from companies such as Parsec, Sentry, Stan, Superwhisper, and Modem. It plans to expand into AI-native companies and data-heavy workflows in media, entertainment, and AI training infrastructure.
